Hello
fans and welcome back to the latest issue of the Mid-Pacific Promotions
newsletter. Well, we held off as long as
we could but felt we needed to make this announcement before the tabloids blow
it up all out of proportion.
MPP
has been on multiple hiatus due to disputes with the arena where TV is taped as
well as concerns over certain wrestlers’ compensation. It seemed that while the Grand Wizard was
managing in MPP, it was agreed upon with IWA that we would cover his
airfare. However, once the bills tallied
up, it seemed that GW spent a LOT on airfare flying first class. There was also disputes brought up by former
MPP wrestlers Edge and Christian who filed lawsuits claiming breach of
contract. This took time to sort
out. Once all the bills were tallied and
contracts sorted (E & C actually staged their whole feud in order to sue
MPP), MPP was not in a good way. E&C
both received compensation but not to the degree they were expecting. All this plus the reviewing excessive costly
contracts put MPP in the hole. Dave
Millican and Reggie Parks worked with the SPWA Board of directors and after weeks
of negotiations, they felt they had no choice but to sell off their promotion. The biggest sticking point to a sale was that
no one wanted to keep the promotion alive in Hawaii due to climbing costs. After numerous discussions with the SPW
Alliance board of directors, it was determined that MPP will be closing its
doors after the December 9th show (will be hosting the SPW World
Champion). After that, Reggie and Dave
will be working diligently to try to find a new home for the MPP roster. During the final hiatus, we will be closely
monitoring what is happening and will report it here on the SPW Network.
Because
of the multiple hiatus, Dave and Reggie decided to give the fans a mini
PPV. Every title will be defended here
tonight. Even SPW Cruiserweight Champion
Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger is here before he takes off for his next title defense.
Our
first match kicks off with the defense of the Light Heavyweight Title. First, the challenger and leader of the Bullet
Club Finn Balor comes out to a pop from the crowd. Next, the LHC comes out and is carrying his
three championships (SPW Crusierweight, MPP LHT and IWA’s North American
Title). He enters the ring bypassing
Balor and climbs each of the turnbuckles showing off his titles. Finally the match gets under way. This was Finn’s night. He totally owned the champion for the first
20 minutes of the match but after that, Liger started to make a comeback. Balor would go for multiple pin attempts only
to have Liger keep kicking out. Just
when it looked like the champ was going to steal a win, Balor hit him with the
Bloody Sunday and just as he went for the cover, the bell rang bringing this
one to a 30 minute draw. Balor was
disappointed. Liger quickly grabbed his
titles and left. Reggie Parks came out
and told Balor that if he knew he had this in him, this match would have
happened sooner. Since Liger defended
the title and retained, he’s not in line for another shot however on the
October 14th show, the SPW Cruiserweight title will be defended and
it will be Balor getting the title shot.
He seemed really happy with that and eventually left the ring. (30 min draw; 174 to 204)
It
is announced that the #1 contender for the World title was going to be Damien
Sandow but he is still off fulfilling his obligation to King Jerry Lawler so
instead that shot will be going to CM Punk.
The next
match up is the Sheepherders vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Prof. Toru Tanaka w/
Luscious Johnny V. The Sheepherders have demanded a title match and threatened
to go through the whole roster bloody drop by drop until they get it. Before the match, the tag team champions
Samoa Joe and Yokozuna ran out and attacked the Sheepherders bloodying them up
pretty bad. Under the tutelage of Johnny
Valiant, Tanaka and Tsuruta owned the match but could not put the Sheepherders
away. This was another battle that went
to a 30 minute draw. After the match,
Butch Miller took a mic and said that Joe and Yokozuna best be looking over
their shoulders as they are not finished with them. (30 min draw; 176 to 346)
Backstage,
Sensational Sherri is with John Cena and she tells him that she is the Manager
of the Year because she just secured him a title match against Pacific Heritage
Champion Bray Wyatt. Cena says that is
all good and all but how is it that he defeated CM Punk and he gets a Heavyweight
title shot? Cena told Sherri thank you
for this but as nice as the Heritage title is, the Heavyweight title is
better. He walked off.
Next
up is the World Tag Team title match between champions Yokozuna & Samoa Joe
w/ Mr. Fuji vs the Ascension. Konnor and
Viktor came out first and were heavily booed.
Konnor got on the mic and said that they are the uncrowned champs and
once they win here tonight, they will go on and fight for the SPW Tag titles. Next, Mr. Fuji comes out with Yokozuna and
Samoa Joe. The Ascension were a bigger
threat than expected and Fuji had to up his game. The champs controlled the entire match but a
knee lift by Viktor on Joe at the end of the match had everyone concerned until
the bell rang bringing yet another match to a 30 minute draw. The champs retain but their celebration was
short lived as the Sheepherders ran down attacking both teams. Dave Millican came out and told the Butch and
Luke they would get a shot at the Ascension and the winner of that match would
get a shot (or another shot) at the Tag Team Titles. (30 min; 285 to 234)
There
is a brief break before we hear “IF YOU SMELLLLLLLLL, WHAT THE ROCK…IS…COOKIN”
blares out from the loudspeakers and the Rock comes out and stands on the
stage. He makes his way down to the ring
only to be attacked from behind by the ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage. Rock and Savage brawl in the ring and
wrestlers from the back came out to break it up. Lenny Lane and Lance Cade tried to break them
apart but they got hurled out of the ring.
Next, the Bruise Brothers and Curtis and Prince Iaukea came out but they
were unsuccessful too. Finally, the
locker room emptied and hit the ring and finally got the two separated. Miss Elizabeth was sneaking around the ring
and picked up a chair. While Rock was
blocked in the corner by a gaggle of wrestlers, Miss Elizabeth hit Rock with
the chair but it no-sold it, grabbed it forcibly from her and grabbed her by
the wrist. Savage then climbed to the
top turnbuckle and LAUNCHED himself over the wrestlers landing on Rock and freeing
his manager. Savage then rolled out of
the ring and he and Miss Elizabeth took off to the back. Rock, pissed off, started after them.
The
next match on the card is for the US title.
The Dr. of Thuganomics comes out first with Sensational Sherri and they
are booed as they head down to the ring.
Next, the lights dim and the US Champion Bray Wyatt makes his way
out. As he walks down to the ring, he has
a mic and has a few words for his opponent.
“There
is such beauty in a flame. It holds no prejudice. Anything can burn; you just
have to find the right spark. Mountains must crumble. Oceans must boil.
Everything that they have built must be turned to ash. But we are all just
slaves to judgement. It is judgement that tells me that I must survive. It is
judgement that tells me to adapt. And it is your judgement, John, that tells
you it is right to fear me. But it is not the fear that sets men apart, John,
it's the distance they're willing to go. And where we're going, nobody ever
comes back. I am the Eater of Worlds…fear
me.”
Cena
and Sherri did everything a heel team would do but Bray was right there with
them. The champ faltered a few times but
held Cena at bay. At one point, Sherri
threw John his chain but Bray connected with Sister Abigail and a near fall. Bray went to pick up the chain (Sherri was
distracting the ref) but John hit him with a low blow and then belted him with
the chain. He quickly disposed of it and
the ref came over to make the count. 1…2…3. John Cena has just defeated Bray Wyatt to
become the NEW PACIFIC HERITAGE CHAMPION.
Cena stood tall with Sherri holding his new title high. When the fans booed them, he would flip them
all off and then he and Sherri left. (17
min; 120 to 118)
CM Punk
is backstage and he mockingly clapped for John Cena. Punk said that if Cena could win, there was
no reason he couldn’t either. Punk said
that the Heavyweight Champion Don Muraco has had it super easy with no-brainer
title defenses. Tonight, Muraco meets ‘Straight
Edge’ and will learn what it really means to lose something he holds dear.
It’s
time for the main event. First, CM Punk
comes out and is cheered. Next, the
Champ ‘The Magnificent One’ Don Muraco comes out with his manager Mr.
Fuji. Fuji said his tag champs were
victorious and so would Muraco.
