Mid-Pacific Promotions Newsletter #018

Hello SPW fans and welcome back to the latest installment of the Mid-Pacific Promotions newsletter.  I have to tell you, the last few weeks have been a whirlwind.  Bray Wyatt defeated Nikolai Volkoff to become the SPW US Champ; Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger defeated Dynamite Kid for the SPW Cruiserweight title and our very own Damien Sandow is now “King”.   We will hear from him later in the day.

SPW US Champion Bray Wyatt is not here as he’s over in the Stampede territory defending his championship.  We wish him the best of luck.

MPP Light Heavyweight and SPW Cruiserweight Champion Jushin Liger will defend his title tonight before he hits the road to Stampede to defend his title.  We also wish him the best of luck.  Now that all of the SPW commitments are done, we can get back to MPP business.

Dave Millican comes out and says that LA was great but Hawaii is just that much better.  The fans pop.  Dave goes on to say that it’s almost time for the SPW World Champion to return here to Hawaii.  That day, 8/5, MPP will have its first ever major PPV entitled “The Cutting Edge”.  We do not yet know who will challenge for that title but I’m sure as the week’s progress, we’ll learn who that will be.  Reggie will be out later with another announcement.

The show kicks off with World Champion Don Muraco w/ Mr Fuji making his way down to the ring.  Don is decked out in a fancy suit.  Muraco says he’s heard it all now that some schlub named Crash Holly wants a piece of him.  Muraco says Holly will get his match and everything else that happens will be no one else’s fault except Holly’s.  He leaves.

Match #1:  The Ascension vs the Bruise Brothers.  Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash come out first followed by Viktor and Konnor.  Konnor gets on the mic berating the Bruise Brothers until they had enough and tried to go after the Ascension but they bailed.  Once they got the ref to push them back, Konnor and Viktor re-entered the ring.  The match barely gets started when Boyd charged Konnor and then got hurled out of the ring.  Viktor attacked Boyd and nailed the Fall of Man.  Mad Dog Boyd ends up getting counted out.  The Ascension get the win via countout in only 30 seconds.  They laugh as they make their way up the ramp.  Porkcop tended to his partner.

Heritage Champion Edge is backstage and says he gets in the ring with a former tag team partner, former friend and worst of all, a low-down no good backstabber but first, he has to defend his title and it WON’T be against Christian.  Edge says that Christian has always been jealous of his singles success because, well, Christian just plain sucks.  There will be a 4 person tournament to see who he’ll take on and that starts next.

Match #2:  Gino Hernandez vs Muhammed Hassan for a shot at the Heritage title.  Hernandez came out and the crowd chanted “You Lost” at him (his loss to Terry Taylor at KOTR).  That just plain pissed him off.  He went right after Hassan and dominated the match.  He ends up hitting Hassan with a Back Buster and with his foot on the ropes, got the 1-2-3.  Gino moves on.  He flips off the fans before leaving.

King Damien Sandow is backstage with Mike Adamle.  Mike asks the King what he’s been up to since winning KOTR.   Sandow replied that he went to a comic con and while dressed as a Stormtrooper, he got to mingle with the fans and they never knew it was him.  Mike asks if he’s thought about which title he wanted to cash in against and Damien said that it’s a tough call.  On one hand, he’s confident he could defeat MPP World Champion Don Muraco but with Mr. Fuji at ringside, he’s less sure of his chances.  Damien congratulates Bray and Liger for winning their belts and feels that it doesn’t make sense to go after those.  Damien says really all that is left is the SPW World title and THAT is the one he will challenge for.  Mike asked if he knew when he’d want to cash it in but Damien said that once he is well versed on the SPWA rules, he’ll make that announcement.

Match #3:  Dolph Ziggler vs John Cena w/ Sensational Sherri.  Ziggler came out first followed by Cena & Sherri.  Cena says that he needs this and once he wins, he’ll be the crown jewel in Sherri’s collection.   Dolph started off strong but each time Sherri interfered, John kept taking it to the next level.  Finally, Cena drops Ziggler with a clothesline and Cena makes a sloppy cover to get the pin.  Sherri says Cena will be the next Heritage Champion and you can take that to the bank.

Match #4:  Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger vs Ultimo Dragon for the Light Heavyweight Title.  This is a rematch from their last meeting when Liger defeated Dragon for the title.  Both men were neck and neck through the match until Liger connected with a senton and Ultimo seemed hurt.  Liger capitalized on it and went to the top rope and hit a top rope Frankensteiner.  He hooked the leg and got the 1-2-3.  Liger retains the title on his first defense.  Liger holds up both the MPP and SPW titles and then leaves as he heads to a plane to head up to Canada.  Liger speaks to Mike Adamle and tells him that the collection of titles continues and if anyone in any promotion wants to give him a shot at their belt, he will gladly take them on.

Match #5:  Gino Hernandez vs John Cena.   Cena, with Sherri’s help, dominated the match but, in this no DQ match, things went sour for Cena when CM Punk came out, ran down, attacked John and nailed him with the GTS.  Punk then motioned to Gino to continue.  Gino picked up John and nailed a Back Buster.  Gino gets the 3 count and wins the match.  Sherri was furious on the outside for the ref not stopping Punk from interfering.

Crash Holly is backstage and says it’s a typical story about Davey vs Goliath.  He says that he does the Holly name proud when he defeats Muraco for the biggest prize in all of MPP – the World title.

Match #6:  World Championship Match:  Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji vs Crash Holly.   Holly came out first but as soon as the World Champ came out, Holly went after him.  Muraco shrugged him off and after a few forearm smashes, he hurled Crash into the ring.  It was a train wreck.  Muraco dominated the much smaller Holly and each time he’d smash Crash down, the fans would boo.  Muraco flipped off the fans before nailing Crash with a Hawaiian Punch.  Don made the cover and got the easy 1-2-3.  Don Muraco retains his title and he laughs as he and Fuji leave a beaten down Crash laying in the ring.

Reggie Parks is backstage in his office and says he has an announcement to make in regards to title defenses of MPP champions.  Reggie states that the first Saturday of every month will see the World title defended followed by Tag Team champs the next, then Heritage Champion and finally the Light Heavyweight in week 4.  If there are 5 Saturdays in a given month, no title will be defended then unless it was a PPV.

It’s time for our main event.  First, Gino Hernandez comes out with the Bullet Club (Finn Balor, King Damien Sandow and AJ Styles).  They wish him luck and Gino heads to the ring.  Next, Pacific Heritage Champion Edge comes out to a pop from the crowd.  He walks by the Bullet Club but does nothing.  Edge dominated Gino but after a Back Buster and a near fall, Edge got serious.  Christian then ran down to the ring and had a chair. He hid from view biding his time.  Gino went to throw Edge to the ropes but it was reversed and Christian swung the chair hitting Gino by mistake.  Edge then caught Gino with a swinging neckbreaker and got the 3 count.  Edge is successful in his first title defense.  Christian didn’t like this outcome so he jumped in the ring and went to swing the chair at Edge but Edge dropkicked the chair into Christian’s face and both Christian and the chair fell out of the ring.   During all this, Gino had power walked to the back and he was not happy.  Christian recovered pretty quick and slunk up the ramp with a chair in tow.

That’s all for now.  Thanks for reading.  More to come.
