Mid-Pacific Promotions Newsletter #015 (includes SPW US title match)

Hello fans and welcome back to the Mid-Pacific Promotions newsletter.  We have a hell of a show lined up tonight with our main event being SPW US Champion Nikolai Volkoff taking on Bray Wyatt.  After reviewing footage from both Volkoff’s win and his attack on Bray Wyatt, Dave Millican and Reggie Parks have informed the ref for the bout tonight to make sure he checks that arm brace thoroughly to ensure there are no foreign objects stored in it.  When they confronted Volkoff and Blassie on this, they played it off like the American was trying to discredit Nikolai when all it is is that he has powerful arms.  Reggie didn’t buy it and said they’d be keeping an eye on it and if they see funny business, they will report it to the SPWA council.

Our first match of the night is the first part of our King of the Ring qualifying matches.  A-Team leader Austin Aries comes out first.  Next, Sensational Sherri comes out and introduces Umaga!  Aries looks on in discomfort.  Aries put up a valiant struggle but with Sherri’s brain and Umaga’s strength, it was only a matter of time (24 min) for Aries to succumb to a Samoan Spike and got pinned.  Umaga moves on much to Sherri’s delight.

Bray Wyatt is backstage with Mike Adamle and he cuts a promo. 

"I never sleep but my visions come to me when I dream. They show me these mannequins posing as people. They're living in a world where they're intoxicated with their own vanity. But we all see symmetry in beauty. I have felt the sharp teeth of society. I know what it feels like to be thrown in some groveling pit where they all point down and laugh at me. But look at me now. I grow stronger by the day. And look, daddy, I got my wings back. Nobody knows you better than I do; they could never know you like I do.  Nikolai will enter the lion's den as a monster but he will leave knowing that Bray Wyatt is the real deal."

Our next qualifying match begins with Christian making his way out first.  Sherri comes back out and introduces the Dr. of Thuganomics John Cena.  Cena cuts a promo (not appropriate for our young viewers).   Once again, the brilliant mind of Sensational Sherri provided Cena with just enough foresight to stay one step ahead of Captain Charisma.  Christian got lucky and dropped Cena with the Unprettier but then Heritage Champion Edge came out on the stage and Christian started to yell at him from the ring.  Sherri slid John his chain and then she distracted the ref as John belted Christian with the chain.  He discarded it and made the cover getting the 3 count.  John Cena advances. (14 min)

Luscious Johnny Valiant is backstage with Professor Toru Tanaka and Jumbo Tsuruta.  Valiant says that Prof. Tanaka will be in the KOTR qualifier and he’ll be in his corner ensuring his man wins tonight.

Match #3 begins with A-Team member Antonio Cesaro making his way out followed by Gino Hernandez.  Both men gave it their all but neither could get more than a one count for the entirety of the match.  Fans eagerly sat on the edge of their seats waiting to see how it would play out and this awesome match ended up going to the time limit ending in a draw.  Gino was not happy and he stormed out of the ring.  (30 min draw).  Reggie Parks came out stopping him and said he would have the match continue but he was only giving them an additional 10 minutes to get a winner.  He sent Gino back and had the match restarted.  Gino immediately attacked Antonio throwing him out of the ring.  He then took handcuffs from under the ring and secured Cesaro to the ringside railing.  Gino rolled back in and gets the win via countout decision.  Gino Hernandez moves on.

Dave Millican is backstage with the SPW Cruiserweight Champion the Dynamite Kid.  Dynamite says he’s happy to be here in the wonderful state of Hawaii and looks forward to defending his title against whomever it will be.  Dave then invites him to sit at ringside to watch the final match for the LH Championship.  He thankfully accepts.

Match #4 is ready to begin.  Damien Sandow comes out to a pop from the crowd.  Next, Luscious Johnny Valiant comes out with Professor Toru Tanaka.  Sandow made Valiant a non-factor right off the bat and that did not help Tanaka at all.  Tanaka tried for a cobra clutch but Sandow weaseled out of it. A few moments later, Sandow connects with the Elbow of Disdain and made the cover getting the 3 count.  Damien Sandow advances.

Backstage with Mike Adamle, he has the two finalists for the Light Heavyweight championship there with him.  Both men praise the other’s skills but both think they were going to win the gold.  Mike wished both men luck and the two competitors shook hands but didn’t let up as the segment ended.

Match #5 is for the Light Heavyweight Championship.  SPW Cruiserweight Champion The Dynamite Kid makes his way down to the ring first to a pop from the crowd.  He sits at commentary.  Next, both Ultimo Dragon and Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger came out both being well received by the fans and made their way into the ring.  The two shook hands and then we had a match that was considered by MPP brass one of the best matches they’ve ever witnessed.  They gave this one 5 stars.  Both men showed why they should be the LHC and the fans popped for every high spot.  Ultimo went for Liger’s arm while Liger went for Ultimo’s leg.  After hitting a running Liger Bomb, Liger put on a leglock and stretched it to the point that Ultimo couldn’t hold on and he tapped out.  Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger is the NEW Light Heavyweight Champion and will go on to meet the Dynamite Kid at the next show for the SPW Cruiserweight title.  Dynamite got up applauding the match and then joined Liger in the ring where he shook the new champs’ hand. 

Reggie Parks announces that the final matches between John Cena, Damien Sandow, Umaga and Gino Hernandez will be at the next show and the final two will go on to represent Mid-Pacific Promotions at this year’s King of the Ring in Los Angeles, CA.

It’s now time for our main event.  First, the lights dim and creepy music plays as Bray Wyatt comes out and makes his way down to the ring.  Next, SPW US Champion Nikolai Volkoff and Freddie Blassie make their way down.  Volkoff takes the mic and tries to sing the Russian National anthem but the booing from the crowd drowns him out and he gets visibly frustrated.  Blassie provides some last minute advice and Nikolai adjusts his forearm brace and this one begins.  60 minute time limit.  The ref starts by ensuring Nikolai didn’t have anything foreign in his brace.

Bray Wyatt has defeated Nikolai and is the NEW SPW US CHAMPION!!!!  Blassie and Volkoff tried to complain but it did no good.  Bray remains in the ring holding his newly acquired championship much to the delight (only because he’s a member of MPP) of the fans.
