Owner
Dave Millican makes an appearance on stage and touches on how he spent the last
week meeting with owners from the different promotions and says that there will
be announcements made later in the evening that will blow their socks off. He then hypes the arrival of SPW World
Champion Verne Gagne and says that the winner of the match between Edge and the
Ultimate Warrior will determine who gets to meet Mr. Gagne for that coveted
belt. Dave then plays a short video that
introduces Verne to the world of Mid-Pacific Promotions showcasing his
matches. Dave then introduces Verne LIVE
to the crowd and they pop as Verne makes his way down to the ring. He is handed a mic. “Hello fans of Mid-Pacific Promotions. I’m the SPW World Champion Verne Gagne and I
wanted to say how excited I am to be coming here to Honolulu to defend this
title. As the World Champion, I will go
wherever this belt takes me and I look forward to the awesome competition you
have to offer. Like back home in the AWA
where there is top notch talent, I hear you fans are something special too and
I am honored to defend this title here.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing who I will defend this title
against.” The fans cheer as Verne hands
the mic back and waves as he leaves the ring.
The
show kicks off the Berserker making his way out first. The music changes and the Demon King Finn
Balor makes his way out and he is very well received. The Berserker stuns Balor with a legdrop and
then picks up Balor by his hair yanking hard.
Finn then grabs his arm and locks in the High Angle Fujiwara armbar and
the Berserker immediately taps out. Finn
gets the win in only 2 minutes.
***NEWS
FLASH*** flashes across the big screen and it is announced that High Chief
Peter Maivia has accepted the Rock’s invitation and will join us at our special
‘Island Slugfest’. The fans pop at the
announcement that Maivia is ‘coming home’ even if for only one match.
It’s
time for our next match and it is of the tag team variety. Billy Pearl and Lenny Lane come out
first. The music hits and King Curtis
& Prince Iaukea make their way out next.
They high five the fans as they make their way to the ring. Trying to make a name for themselves, Pearl and
Lane attack the Iaukea’s but surprisingly they held their own. It didn’t take long though for Prince Iaukea
to hit a back body drop on Pearl and then the King took him outside the ring
and set him up at the announcers table and then sat on his lap much to the
fan’s delight. He wouldn’t let Pearl get
up. Finally he did but by then it was
too late and Pearl got counted out. King
Curtis and Prince Iaukea get the win. They celebrate with the fans before
leaving. (8 min)
World
Champion Dean Melanko makes his way into Reggie Parks’ office. He says that it should be him representing
the MPP as its champion and then issues a challenge to the winner (between Edge
and Ultimate Warrior) and says if he wins, he gets the SPW title match. If he loses, he will grant whomever a future
title shot. Reggie says that while he is
happy that Dean wants to step up, he still has to defend that World title
first. All of a sudden, Don Muraco w/
Mr. Fuji walk in (he’s in a very foul mood) and demands a title shot
tonight. Dave Millican then joins in and
says that Dean can accept the match but it will not be for the title. However, if Muraco can defeat Malenko here
tonight, he will get a shot at the World title next week. Muraco and Dean have a stare down before the
Magnificent one leaves.
Match
#3 begins with Zema Ion making his way out first and then is followed out
‘Captain Charisma’ Christian. Zema Ion
and Christian put on a hell of a match with lots of high spots. Zema had control of the match for its
entirety but after failing to capitalize on a legdrop, Christian caught Zema
with the Unprettier and scored the 3 count.
After the match, Zema was a little ticked off but he cooled off and the
two men shook hands. (19 min)
Andre
the Giant is backstage with Mike Adamle and says he wants to be involved in the
match against the SPW World Champion. Mr.
Fuji rushes over and throws a fireball into Andre’s face temporarily blinding
him. Yokozuna then rushes in for an
attack but it is quickly squashed. Andre
recovers and says he wants Yokozuna next week.
I think this time it will happen.
Match
#4 is ready to begin and this will determine who goes on to meet Verne next
week at Island Slugfest. Verne comes out
first and waves as he goes to sit at commentary to scout the match. “You don’t know me” sounds through the
speakers and Heritage Champion Edge comes out to a pretty huge pop from the
crowd. He runs to the ring and slides
under the bottom rope. He doesn’t get
much time to celebrate as the Ultimate Warrior’s music hits and he rushes down
to the ring, gets in and starts shaking the ropes. The two men have a quick staredown and this
one is underway. Things are interrupted
when the Dr. of Thuganomics John Cena comes down wearing a referee’s
shirt. Cena says he asked and was
granted the role of ref for this match as he wants to make sure the right man
wins. Warrior gets in his face but Cena
threatens to DQ him if he so much as touches him. For almost 25 minutes, Ultimate Warrior had
Edge beat but each time he went for a pin, Cena was distracted. First, it was something in his eye. Then it was a glare from the audience. The final time was when Cena left the ring to
talk smack to Verne Gagne who was sitting at commentary. We pick up at the 26th minute of
the match.

Referee
John Cena calls the match a draw and then attacks the Ultimate Warrior hitting
him with the FU. Warrior gets up pretty
quick and chases Cena from the ring.
Reggie and Dave come out. Dave
says he and Reggie scored the match and based on points, awarded Ultimate
Warrior with 187 points. Edge, who made
a comeback in the final minutes of the match, got 206. Based on this, they awarded the title shot to
Edge. Reggie tells the fans that the
Ultimate Warrior will get the chance to get his hands on Cena at the next show. Verne goes up to Edge and shakes his hand but
Edge doesn’t let go and just stares at the SPW World title sitting on Verne’s
shoulder. He finally lets go and both
men eventually leave.
The
lights then go out and over the loudspeakers blares “OHHHHHHHHHH…WHAT A RUSH!”
and on the big screen, the Legion of Doom the Road Warriors – Animal and Hawk
appear live via closed circuit. The fans
pop so loud that it takes almost a full minute before they can say
anything. Hawk begins “Broken necks,
splattered patellas, severed arteries: These are the things from which dreams
are made of.” Animal looks right at the
camera and says “You PUNKS, you wanted our attention, you got it. We’ll see you next week.” The fans start an “LOD” chant that goes on
for almost 5 minutes.
It’s
time for our main event. The Magnificent
Muraco comes out first accompanied by his manager Mr. Fuji. He is booed pretty heavily. Next, the World Champion Dean Melanko comes
out and gets the second loudest pop of the night behind the LOD. Melanko clearly outwrestled Muraco but Don
finally managed to channel his rage and power and started to take it to the
champ. Dean went for the Texas
Cloverleaf but Mr. Fuji threw salt in his eyes blinding him. Muraco then rolled Dean up and with the ropes
for leverage, got the 1-2-3. Don Muraco
gets the win much to the chagrin of the fans.
Don will go on to receive a shot at the World title next show. (8 min)
