Mid-Pacific Promotions Newsletter #004 – 2 shows this week

Hello fans and welcome back to Mid-Pacific Promotions – a proud member of the SPWA.   We actually had two shows this week with the first being a qualifying round of matches…nothing really to write home about as the end result for Day 2 is really what was important.  For Day 1, each match was given a 30 minute time limit so that there would be a winner declared.  When asked by reporter Mike Adamle as to why they were doing this, owners Reggie Park and Dave Millican say they have something HUGE planned but the SPW brass want them to keep it quiet for now.

Show 1
Qualifiers
Match #1:  John Cena w/the Grand Wizard vs Christian Cage :  Cena toyed with Christian for longer than he probably should have as he came one Unprettier away from losing.  Once he got his head on straight, all it took was a Five Knuckle Shuffle and that was it.  Cena advances. (16 min)

Match #2: Batista vs Ken Shamrock:  Batista was all power and Ken tried to counter that with technical wrestling.  Didn’t help him much though.  Shamrock got a 2 ¾ count after hitting a belly to belly suplex but Batista would just overpower him.  Batista nails a big boot to the face of Shamrock and then nails a bodyslam.  He makes the cover and gets the 3 count.  Batista advances.  (19 min)

Match #3:  Don Muraco vs Christopher Daniels:  Right off the bat, Daniels nails a Death Valley Driver but Muraco recovers quickly throwing Daniels out of the ring.  He then hits a Dedicated Piledriver on the floor.  Daniels gets counted out.  Don Muraco advances. (1 min)

Match #4:  Samoa Joe vs Edge: Edge and Joe pound the hell out of each other but a Downward Spiral from Edge got him a quick victory.  Edge advances.  (12 min)

Match #5:  Jumbo Tsuruta w/Johnny Valiant vs Antonio Cesaro:  Valiant was a non-factor in this match as Cesaro was able to keep him at bay.  The end came after Cesaro nails a gutwrench suplex and hooked the leg for a 3 count.  Cesaro advances (6 min)

Match #6:  Rock vs Austin Aries:  Aries was a bit off his game as the Rock and his millions (and millions) of fans cheered him on.  Rock gets the win fairly quickly after connecting with the People’s Elbow.  Rock advances.  (6 min)

Match #7:  Ultimate Warrior vs Muhammed Hassan w/the Grand Wizard.  Total squash match as the Ultimate Warrior wins this one in just under two minutes after hitting the press & slam followed by the big splash.  Ultimate Warrior advances (2 min)

Match #8:  Yokozuna vs Bobby Lashley.  Lashley was at a disadvantage with all of Mr. Fuji’s interference.  Andre the Giant came out and caused a distraction which allowed Bobby to hit the Dominator and pick up the win.  Bobby Lashley advances (6 min).

That was it for Day 1.

Day 2 came and the qualifiers continued.

Match #1:  John Cena w/ the Grand Wizard vs Bobby Lashley.  Cena and GW had to pull out all the stops this one and had to cheat their way to a victory.   Cena gets the win after hitting a clothesline.  (16 min)

Backstage, Samoa Joe was interviewed and said that all the greats came to Mid-Pacific Promotions but was really disappointed with the Pacific’s own “son” High Chief Peter Maivia snubbed the request and opted to stay where he was.  Joe calls Maivia selfish for looking out only for himself.

Match #2:  Batista vs Don Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji.   This one was a slugfest but also ended short.  After Muraco and Batista who were fighting on the outside of the ring, Muraco threw Batista into the ring post knocking him out.  Muraco gets back in to beat the 10 count.  Muraco advances (4 min)

Match #3:  Cesaro vs Ultimate Warrior.  This was another squash match as right off the bat, Cesaro charged and the Ultimate Warrior caught him in a bearhug.  Cesaro taps out giving the win to UW.  (30 seconds)

Bobby Lashley goes into Reggie Park’s office and says he’d hoped he was going to be used differently but sees that it won’t be that way.  He asks for his release but is told that instead, he will be traded to the WWF for a future consideration.  Lashley shakes the Reggie’s hand, thanks him for the opportunity, and then leaves.

Match #4:  Rock vs Edge.  It appeared that the People’s Champ was going to have this one locked up but the appearance of Samoa Joe with Mr. Fuji on the stage caused a distraction and as Rock turned back around, Edge nailed him with the Spear. Edge makes the cover and gets the win.  Edge advances (22 min)

The Ascension are backstage with Mike Adamle and they continue their insults of the great tag teams again.  Viktor tells Konnor that none of the relics in the SPWA can hold a candle to them.  Konnor then says (referring to those teams) “Ohhhhh, what a JOKE!  The Funks?  Really?  Are they still alive?  Fantastics?  How about Craptastic.  Midnight Express…how about Midnight Tokers?  Oh and don’t forget the Legion of Crybabys.  You jokers are past your prime.  Do the fans a favor and hang up the boots.”  Both men laugh as Mike whispers “Better be careful….”

Match #5:  Damien Sandow vs ‘Sick Boy’ Scott Vick.  Vick fought hard and I think Sandow was caught off guard.  After many near falls, Sandow nails Vick with the Silencer and with his foot on the ropes, gets the 1-2-3.  Damien Sandow gets the win.  (16 min)

Rock is walking to his dressing room, he pulls out his cell phone.  Right before the door closed, we can hear him say “Hey Gramps…”

Match #6:  MAIN EVENT:  Andre the Giant comes out and issues an open challenge hoping to draw Yokozuna out.  Instead, Crash Holly comes out and says he’ll accept the match.  Crash tries to get some offensive moves in but he kept bouncing off of Andre.  Finally, Andre nailed him with a big boot and made the cover to get the win.  (8 min). Yokozuna and Samoa Joe (who now is managed by Mr. Fuji) come out and surround Andre.  They go on the attack but it is kept short as the Rock runs out and peppers both men before spitting into his hand and laying the smack down.  Rock hits Samoa Joe with a Rock Bottom while Andre headbutts Yokozuna who falls out of the ring.  Andre and the Rock say they want these two at the next show.

Thanks for tuning in.   Be sure to come back next week for the next installment of the Mid-Pacific Promotions Newsletter.

Note:

Mid Pacific Promotions and the WWF have agreed to a trade sending Bobby Lashley to the WWF for a future consideration.
